Building a tech team: In-House or Outsourced? 🤔

Deciding how to structure your tech team is a tricky decision to make.

For Non-technical Founders, I’ve always been an advocate for the benefits of outsourcing development for early stage tech startups (hence starting Devika 8 years ago)…

However, there are technical founders or founders that have someone technical on the team from day 1. This group is part of the reason I’ve launched Baseline as an Open-source product for Founders that have someone technical on the team from day one.

Without going into too much detail, this is my 2 cents on why you should consider each option. 🔽

Why should you outsource your tech team?

• You need an MVP to start generating revenue ASAP
• You need specialized expertise for a short period of time
• You need to focus on your core business (sales, marketing, operations)

Why should you develop an in-house team?

• You need to support a long-term product roadmap
• You have considerable existing revenue and can support an in-house team
• You’re a technical founder & can leverage a framework like Baseline to accelerate your initial development phases
